Barbara Brown Taylor's book An Altar in the World is our next book study. Only 3 copies left on the oak table! They are $11 each. This is a fine look at how we can find God in the ordinary--in a stone, a leaf, a door, our bodies, our hearts, in hiking and cooking and prayer. It's a great, easy read. Join us soon for that group that will meet Wednesdays at 7:50 pm on Sept 15, 22, 29, and Oct 6.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Today’s gospel is one of the most demanding passages in the entire Bible. That’s because these words of Jesus ask so much of us, and the message is painfully personal. Jesus calls us to sacrifice like we’ve never done before. He tells us that we have no choice if we want to follow him with integrity, and not just follow him in name only.
So let’s take a look to understand what Jesus is saying in this passage from Luke’s gospel.

The Vestry and Search Committee of Christ Church selected the Rev. Marilyn Anderson as our new rector in late summer of 2005. Marilyn began her work here at Christ Church at the end of October that year.
Prior to that, Marilyn was Associate Rector at St. Andrew's Church in Madison, Connecticut, for just over three years. She is married to Barry Anderson, a senior vice president at GenRe Group in Stamford. Theirs was a William and Mary romance: Barry and Marilyn met as students in Williamsburg, Virginia. They were married in Williamsburg's Wren Chapel some 30 years ago. Their children are Emily, 26, who lives in Toronto; and Chloe, 22, a student at Lauralton Hall in Milford.
They are enjoying their new life in Redding, particularly the wonderful hiking opportunities all over town. Marilyn rejoices that her commute has been cut from 40 minutes to 40 seconds. Each member of the family is thrilled to begin this new chapter in their lives. Marilyn is deeply grateful to have been called by such a wonderful Christian community.
